What's Under Your Feet - March 2022

Posted by: Charlotte on 17th March 2022

On Wednesday 16th March, the Garlinge Eco Reps investigated which invertebrates were in our soil. We split up into two groups and explored two different areas around the school. Overall, this is what we found: 13 worms 2 millipedes 1 spider 1 grub We discussed why we might have uncovered fewer invertebrates in our soil during this dig compared to our October dig. Our reps thought it might be due to the fact that we are just coming out of winter and all the invertebrates are not active at the moment. We really enjoyed delving into the soil beneath our feet and we hope that our findings are useful to the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). We look forward to the next part of the campaign which will take place in June and are curious to see what other differences in the amount / types of invertebrates we will uncover...
