Teachers

Welcome

The Pod provides teachers with the resources and information they need to teach environmental issues and to inspire students to run green activities in school, within the community and at home.

You can download our guide to ‘getting started’ to find out more about using the Pod.

Information Packs

The information packs have been written for teachers by expert organisations like the Eden Project. They are intended to provide you with the background information you need before you start teaching your class. They cover the Pod’s four topics – energy, transport, waste and water.

Simply download the packs to find out about the big issues and to learn about current trends.

Activity Resources

Activity Resources Example resource pack

Once you understand the issues and how we can be more sustainable, it’s time to do something to make a difference. The Pod has a range of activities, specially designed to help your school save energy, water, waste or carbon. There’s a great resource pack for each activity explaining exactly how to run it successfully in your school. The packs include:

  • campaign ideas
  • interesting facts and figures
  • audit templates
  • how to track your activity on the Pod
  • end of activity checklists
  • links to Eco-Schools Awards

Lesson plans

Lessons plans Example lesson plan

Each activity has two lesson plans, one for key stage 2 and one for key stage 3 pupils. The lesson plans provide guidance and ideas for teaching key green topics. They will help to prepare pupils for practical activities that will make their school more sustainable. The lesson plans can be used with or without an interactive whiteboard, and include:

  • lesson objectives
  • suggested resources
  • using the Pod interactives in lessons
  • activity ideas
  • extension ideas
  • curriculum link information – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Take it home worksheets

These worksheets help and encourage pupils to take their learning home and inspire their families to be greener. They are two sides of A4 long – print them out on a single sheet to save paper.

Campaign Resources

The Pod runs a number of great campaigns each year like Switch-Off Fortnight and Green Britain Day. They are designed to get the whole school working together on green projects and to help you inspire similar changes at home and in the community. Our campaign packs are full of information and ideas to help you get the most out of these events.

The site also features other great resources like our 'Green assembly' presentation, which will introduce your students to environmental issues and give them ideas for being greener at school.

Simply login or register on the Pod to access these great resources.
