About

One of the ways in which the Pod rewards schools is by awarding them with activity medals and certificates.

Pod medals are tracked on our medal table and reflect the impact your activity has made e.g. how much energy or waste has been saved and also the number and type of blogs that have been posted. A lessons learned report is required to win one of our top medals

For a limited time, as well as appearing on our medal table, winners will be sent areal medal for their school and a set of pin badges for the class!

There are three kinds of medal:

  • gold
  • silver
  • bronze

This approach was inspired by EDF Energy's position as sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Silver

To win a silver medal you will need to:

1) complete the activities start and end audit

2) make energy, water, waste or carbon savings in your school (apart from Bug Hotel, Energy Mix and Climate Science activities)

3) post regular blogs in different formats e.g. written, photos etc.

The number and type of blogs you upload as well as whether or not you post a lessons learned report will influence the medal you win. Savings are a factor in medal judging in most activities so you will need to complete the start and end audit.

An example of a silver activity medal award:

  • You ran the Flushed with Success activity to put bricks or hippos in your school toilets and successfully put hippos in 50% of the toilets in school. Your blog contains between 10 and 15 posts with some videos or images.

Gold

To win a gold medal, you will need to

1) complete the activities start and end audits

2) make some good energy, carbon, water or waste savings in your school

3) post regular blogs in different formats

4) post a lessons learned blog.

The savings you make and the number and type of blogs that you post, influence the medal you will win

An example of a gold activity medal award:

  • You ran the Goodbye Standby! activity and successfully cut the number of devices left on standby in your school by 75%. You have 20 entries on your blog with a variety of videos and images and have posted a lessons learned report.

Bronze

To win a bronze medal, you will need to:

1) complete the activities start and end audit

2) blog about the activity.

The savings you make and the type and number of blogs that you post, influence the type of medal that you win for most activities. Savings are not calculated for Bug Hotel, Energy Mix and our Climate Science activities

An example of a bronze activity medal award:

  • You ran the Lose your Bottle activity and uploaded between 5 and 10 blog entries with some videos or images.

You will lay the foundations for other pupils to make even greater savings and the opportunity to win silver or gold medals.
